Telecosm 2008 - Wednesday

This morning began the day where we have a full day of conferences for the 2008 Gilder/Forbes Telecosm. We had a dinner yesterday aboard the Adirondac Cruise Ship and then we listened into a really amazing talk by Lawrence Solomon, who is the Author of the book The Deniers. Lawrence Solomon, is an amazing scientist who has fought back against Global Warming. His theory of Global Warming is that this is a natural process that takes place. Obviously none of us were around during the Medievil Times, but apparently during that time, the Earth went through a mini Ice Age and this is the normal Earth's trend that happens every so often. That we are just in the process of the Earth preparing to go into a Mini Ice Age again. We all should be more worried about going into the Mini Ice Age rather than global warming. Last night was definitely a very informative evening. I learned a lot.

I was a little nervous about today. I do not consider myself "smart" or someone to have an educational conversation or even a political conversation at all. When someone asks me about something about my opinion, I will try and get out of answering the question as quick as possible. So to be attending a conference with very very brilliant people, it scares me a lot. I would rather go back to my office to talk about everyday sort of items ... kids, family, travel ... that is where I play small, but my amazing husband knows this and loves to push me to be the amazing woman he knows I am. So now I am listening to people such as Steve Forbes (yes that is THE Steve Forbes ... Forbes Magazine) talk, and Bob Metcalfe (who is the guy who invented the Ethernet ... yes the cables and the whole system to run those cables together and transfer data over those cables), and Jules Urbach who works for OToy & David Kirk who works for Nvidia (they are a gaming company ... I know them because I downloaded a Star Wars Demo game on my computer for Sam and at the start of the game it comes up with Nvidia's little jingle and Sam likes to repeat it every time he hears it ... but they have also done work on movies like Transformers & SpiderMan and video imaging & graphics ... it is AMAZING). And I have no idea to even begin with talking about this conference.

I guess I will just begin with what I really think. This is actually an amazing conference. No ... seriously ... and I have really learned a lot about Technology, Economy & Science. I can't necessarily give you a break down of everything that I have learned today ... nor do I necessarily want to give you a detailed break down of everything that I have learned today. If you are really interested, right now I'd tell you to go take a look at Scott's Blog. He has been writing more detailed descriptions that I have. And I am sure they will have something out about the presentations here in a bit ... I'll post it if I find out where they will be. But for the day, I have truly enjoyed listening into all of these conversations where I can pick up bits and pieces of what they are talking about, and asking questions (usually they are just asked to Scott, but he loves to hear my questions) and learning a ton of things that I never knew what was going on in the world.
